Kobalt KDD524B Drill Review

Mini Review
To be completely honest, this was my first time using a Kobalt drill for any extended period of time. After a few days with the drill, I really like it and see the value in this kit. It is packed with features: LED light, belt hook, battery level indicator, brushless motor, 24v system, and an amazing warranty. I don’t know for sure how long it will last under hard use but the warranty pretty much eliminates that concern. Pleasantly surprised by how well-built this drill is. I would recommend this drill to all three segments of our The Tool Space users (warranty was definitely factored in for the Contractor segment).

First Impressions
We were very impressed with this kit out of the box. It is loaded with features and accessories: extra handle, battery level indicator, belt hook, etc. It was like Christmas morning where you think you have two presents to open but instead you have ten. It’s not the lightest drill but it does handle well. The construction of the drill is solid without much wiggle or play at all. The grip and handle are well designed and very comfortable.

Full Review
It’s a very nice kit with a ton of extras that are not included from most other companies. Kobalt is Lowe’s internal brand and they have done a very nice job with this kit. This was our first opportunity to spend an extended amount of time with a Kobalt drill and we really enjoyed this drill. Pleasantly surprised might sound offensive but we really didn’t know what to expect from this package. The KDD524B-03 is a great drill with tons of features. It performed effortlessly through all of our testing and was very comfortable to use. The drill clutch setting definitely amps up the power to get through some hard surfaces: hardwood, masonry, and steel. The only thing that hampered the experience was when we kept drilling through angle steel and eventually got the drill to overheat and shutoff. This is a built-in feature that protects the drill but it could be a hindrance to guys who are pushing to get heavy work done quickly. We were very satisfied with this kit and would recommend it to all three segments of our The Tool Space users: DIY, Handyman, and Contractor (the warranty was considered when recommending for the Contractor segment). Recommended for: DIY, Handyman, and Contractor
